ImagingUSA 2016 Collage

Now that we’ve had some time to digest some of the information from the recent ImagingUSA conference in Atlanta, it’s time to share some useful tidbits with you, the reader. We drank from the proverbial fire hose, so you don’t have to. 😉

IUSA_KeynotePoint 1: Work every day to perfect your craft. Even the top award winners learn by doing. The more you practice the basics like exposure, composition, and lighting, the more you’ll develop your own style. So try to take at least one photo a day, even if it’s with your cell phone.

Point 2: Find yourself a mentor, preferably someone who’s been in the business for years and really knows his stuff. Networking with an experienced and enthusiastic professional will not only keep you accountable but give you fresh motivation and a fresh perspective too.

Point 3: Sell yourself well and whenever you can. Connect with those around you. If you have business cards, take them with you everywhere and give them away. Make alliances with local businesses whose goals align with yours. And if you don’t have a website or portfolio, consider building one.

Happy shooting! 🙂
