9Stone Bridge

There was a time when this bridge felt the pounding of hooves, the roll of wheels and the pressure of commerce. And twice it felt the horror of war. Reduced to rubble and lovingly rebuilt, it quietly straddles a stream and waits now only curious seekers after the past.

The mud along the stream bank was very slippery. I initially struggled to keep my footing, and in the end had to brace myself against a nearby piling to compose the shot. Thank Heaven for image stabilization! 😉
