The Dreamer’s Guide to Photography – Part 3: Dark Church

“Upon the wide, iron-railed, weed-grown plateau which the wall supported…there stood a grim, titan bulk…”

So wrote Lovecraft of a certain fictional church where strange things happened. Last year, I was able to see another church building through that dreamy filter. At the time, I stitched together a series of 5 shots spaced 1 stop apart for an HDR image. But it wasn’t until later that I decided to revisit it to squint the digital eye a bit more until I saw what I imagined.

A bit more contrast and the use of a linear gradient to simulate a gnd filter and I saw my vision at last. The gothic imagery made me shiver with delight.

So don’t throw out those old images just yet. Coming back to them after a while may make you see them with new and interested eyes.
