3 Reasons You'll Want to Add a Fisheye Lens to Your Gear

Fisheye lenses create a very interesting distortion effect due to their shape, allowing for some very cool artistic end products. And while this in itself was reason enough for me to procure one, I’ll add three more reasons why you might want to consider this lens for your own bag…

1. They have extreme depth of field. Take an 8mm average focal length combined with a small aperture and it’s easy to make a picture where everything is tack sharp.

2. Enclosed panoramas become possible. Even a small space can become roomy with a fisheye due to their ultra-wide field of view. A closet can become a warehouse.

3. They can be quite inexpensive. For example, some of the good ones can be had for just a tad over $200. For a DSLR lens, that’s not bad at all.

Unless you’re strictly into ultra-realism, I have a feeling you’ll like these unusual lenses. But if you’re still not convinced, see about borrowing one, either online or from a friend, and try it out. You might be surprised at how it inspires you.
